Centre County United Way - Focus on Community Impact

The Centre County United Way improves lives by mobilizing and creating sustained changes in community conditions which improve the quality of life in Centre County. One way we do this is through our participation in community collaboratives, which add value to the dollars we raise.

Care Centre County

Communities That Care links school, family, community, and research groups, working together to identify risk factors among our youth, evaluate protective factors that may already exist, and plan and carry out strategies that address both, using a collaborative, multi-faceted approach.

Day of Caring

The PNC Bank-Centre County United Way Day of Caring is a one-day fall event designed to help community organizations make needed improvements to their facilities. Started in 1993 by volunteer Colonel Gerald F. Russell, and supported by the continuous generosity of PNC Bank, The Day of Caring uses materials donated by community-minded businesses, and the talent, skill and creativity of hundreds of volunteers, to improve the quality of life in the Centre Region.

Operation ASAP

Centre County United Way created the Armed Services Assistance Program as an information resource network to link military families with services they need, but are not available through military support systems.

Trash to Treasure

The Trash to Treasure is an annual sale of gently used and new items donated by PSU students living in University Park’s residence halls. On average 190 tons of move-out waste is generated during two days at Penn State's campus. The Trash to Treasure Sale, which benefits the Centre County United Way, saves more than 60 tons of material from our landfills and has raised more than $50,000 for services provided by Centre County's 40 partner agencies.

Jeans for Teens

Jeans for Teens is a collaboration effort with the Centre County Youth Service Bureau.
