On Friday, Ocotober 10th, the Centre County United Way held a special event for the Young Leaders Group at Beaver Stadium. First, there was a reception at the Sports Museum that included cocktails and food. Then, the group was treated to a full tour of Beaver Stadium with former Penn State defensive lineman Bob White! YOUNG LEADERS CAME OUT TO HONOR ONE ANOTHER AND RECURUIT NEW MEMBERS

STATE COLLEGE, Pa.--The Young Leaders Group gathered together for fellowship and a tour of Beaver Stadium on Friday evening, Oct. 10, 2008. This event was held to recognize current Centre County United Way and Young Leader Group members and recruit new members.

Larry Snavely, Centre County United Way 2008 Campaign Chair, began the event by encouraging members to continue to donate and raise awareness of the needs of the community and United Way’s partner agencies.

“Our goal this year is to raise $2.1 million,” said Snavely. “Even given our nation’s current economic woes, we have raised more than $806,000 to date. We are ahead of where we were last year at this time, and that is the direct result of our remarkable group of volunteers and our dedicated staff.”

In an effort to recruit new members, Tim Kishbach, Young Leaders Co-Chair, spoke of the groups goal of adding 30 new members and incorporating more community service activities.

“We have 24 new Young Leader Group members,” said Kishbach, “who have signed on for the 2008 campaign by donating $500 or more this year. We are only 6 new members away from meeting our goal because of current members of the Young Leader Group’s planning committee.”

To close the event, a tour of Beaver Stadium was given by Bob White, former Penn State defensive tackle and current manager of the Mount Nittany Club. Young Leader Group members and prospects were able to explore all parts of the stadium, including the locker room and field.

The Centre County United Way funds 37 health and human service organizations throughout the Centre County. Visit the Centre County United Way online at www.ccunitedway.org or call 238-8283.
